June 6-7, 2015 The Great Canadian Cheese Festival Crystal Palace, Picton, Ontario (Location to be confirmed)
This event has something for everyone – tutored cheese tastings, an artisanal cheese and fine foods fair, cooking-with-cheese lessons, and a mix-and-mingle with cheese mongers and cheese makers. There is also a guided tour on Friday, June 5 that will take you to a water-buffalo dairy farm, a goat farm, a museum of agricultural heritage, and an award-winning cheese producer. Among other things, the event includes cheese competitions, cheese tasting workshops, cheesemaking demonstrations, cheese sculpting, and live entertainment. August 12-16, 2015 – Festival de la CurdSt-Albert, Ontario (southeast of Ottawa)
Dates to be confirmed. Also known as the St. Albert Curd Festival, this multi-day event includes live entertainment, a farmer's market, cooking demonstrations, a giant maze, community activities and, of course, cheese curds. Lots of cheese curds -- in fact, about four tonnes of them. The festival is held at the St-Alberts Cooprative Cheese Manufacturing Company. For details, check out the festival website. August 15, 2015– The Canadian Cheese Rolling FestivalWhistler's Blackcomb Mountain, B.C.
A deliciously exhilarating race in which hardcore cheese lovers chase an 11-pound (5 kg) wheel of cheese down a mountain. The 2014 event drew 125 competitors and 12,000 spectators. In addition to the actual races, the afternoon includes a host of activities for the whole family, including free cheese seminars and a cheese market. Usually held the first Saturday following Labour Day. Held on the the town’s main street. Stirling is home of the first milking water buffalo herd in Easter Canada. The festival provides an opportunity to sample cheese made with local water buffalo milk, as well as locally produced water buffalo meat. Guest chefs battle to create the best water buffalo delicacy. Every two years, the Dairy Farmers of Canada sponsors a nationwide competition to honour all categories of Canadian cheeses made from 100% Canadian cow’s milk. While judging took place in February, industry professionals will be gathering in Toronto on April 22 as winners are announced at the Gala of Champions. |
